At the beginning of 2018, the Panevėžys City Municipality signed a cooperation agreement on development of robotics with another 14 institutions. With this agreement, the region commited to become one of the strongest robotics centres in the region of North-Eastern Europe. It has also committed to promote inventors, to ensure scientific and business cooperation, to promote the development and deployment of robots in various industries, and to facilitate the creation of favorable conditions for innovation in the region. On the initiative of Panevėžys City Municipality in February 2019, RoboLab, the first robotics competition centre in Lithuania, will be opened in Panevėžys.
